Homeowners: Comprehensive Home Energy Assessment
The Comprehensive Home Energy Evaluation takes most of a day to perform. It includes:
Complete interview with homeowner (and other occupants)
Evaluation of one year’s gas and electric bills (Homeowner provides)
Visual evaluation of attic
Visual evaluation of attic insulation
Thermographic evaluation of attic insulation
Thermographic evaluation of wall insulation
Visual evaluation of crawlspace insulation (if present)
Documentation and visual evaluation of heating and air conditioning system(s), including furnaces,
heat exchangers, compressors, and ductwork
Thermographic evaluation of ductwork for leakage (when possible)
Temperature stratification measurements
Documentation and visual evaluation of ventilation equipment
Documentation and visual evaluation of water heating equipment
Documentation and visual evaluation of appliances and electrical equipment
Documentation and visual evaluation of lighting
Documentation and visual evaluation of windows and doors
Measurement of carbon monoxide levels around all combustion equipment
Evaluation of potential hazards around combustion equipment
Detection of possible gas leaks at accessible pipe connections
Documentation and visual evaluation of water conservation provisions at sinks, showers and toilets
Documentation and visual evaluation of lawn irrigation system
Infiltrometer (blower door) measurement of total structural leakage
Preliminary identification of leakage points
Duct pressurization measurement to determine system leakage
Measurement and documentation of window and door locations and sizes, wall areas and orientations, room sizes
Measurement of water use at sinks, showers and toilets
Visual evaluation of crawlspace (if present)
After we gather all this information, we prepare a report containing our findings. This includes specific recommendations and costs to implement those recommendations. We will meet with you to go over the report and answer all your questions. You can then engage us to carry out some or all of our recommendations, and be on your way to better living with reduced utility costs, improved comfort, and a more energy-efficient house.
