Homeowners: Solar Photovoltaic Installations

Before you install solar photovoltaic (PV) cells, we strongly recommend that
you have a comprehensive home energy assessment and implement some or
all of the recommendations. You'll find that your electricity use will be significantly
decreased, and so you'll need fewer solar cells. In fact, the reduced cost of the solar
installation you'llneed will go a long way towards offsetting your investment in improving
the energy performance of your house.

We do not recommend installing solar PV on a home that has not had a home performance upgrade,
as it is not cost-effective or environmentally sensible. IMproving your home's energy efficiency is the first
step to take before installing solar photovoltaic equipment

Tune up your heating and air conditioning system.
Regular maintenance can lower your operating costs and
extend the service life of your equipment. And do you
change your air filters regularly? Use a programmable
thermostat? Taking small steps such as these can
make your wallet as well as your home greener.
